At 18:35 on September 11, 1993 our owner and head brewer, Chuck McKenna pitched the yeast for his first batch of beer, “McKenna’s Special Amber.” Over the next two and a half decades, he developed a taste for Belgian style beers and began perfecting the art of brewing them. In 2011, he began planning to build a brewery in Delaware; “White Clay Brewing.” After several false starts (and several back surgeries) he and his wife, Sue, decided on opening a brewery in Aston, Pennsylvania. With the help of his right-hand man Ryan, in 2017 they built out the brewery and tap room. The name Aston Abbey comes from the brewery’s focus on Belgian style beers.
